Texas Rangers news: Mahle slips, Semien sinks, and the Yankees just made it worse

Three hits, one run, and a failed fix for Semien highlight another rock-bottom night for the Texas Rangers.

Frustration might be boiling over with the Texas Rangers after their latest loss. After getting swept in the Bronx, Friday night was supposed to be the beginning of their “easy” schedule where they could pile up wins and really get back into the AL West Race.

Instead, Bruce Bochy’s squad managed just three hits and one run against the lowly Chicago Whitesox. In the 4-1 loss, there simply wasn’t much of anything that went right, including starting pitching Tyler Mahle looking human for the first time all season when he allowed three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Not only was that the most runs Mahle has allowed in an inning this season, it’s the most runs Mahle has allowed in a game this season. Until Friday night, he had not allowed more than two runs in any outing. The offense has been massively frustrating, but if the starting pitching starts regressing from “best in the sport” to simply very good, things could spiral quickly.

The Yankees lost to who?!

How bad has this week been for the Texas Rangers? For starters a White Sox team that has won a grand total of 16 games this season scored more on Friday than the Rangers have scored in any game this week.

But the real insult to injury after Bochy’s team was swept by the Yankees, is that New York turned around and lost to the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. The Rockies are now 9-42 on the season with the win.

Texas Rangers trying their best to fix Marcus Semien

One of the Rangers that has gotten the most attention while this offense sputters and struggles is second baseman Marcus Semien. He’s had an incredibly rough season and up until Friday, it seemed as though Bochy believed the best way to fix him was to leave him in the middle of the order and hope he figured it out.

After spending most of the season either leading off or batting fifth, Bochy moved Semien down to 9th in the lineup on Friday. So far, no change as his worst career season by far continued with an 0-for-3 night.

Granted, only Jake Burger, Josh Jung and Wyatt Langford each had one hit on Friday so at least Semien wasn’t the loneliest of Texas Rangers.
