Most of the talk centered around the Texas Rangers farm system revolves around their 19-year-old infielder Sebastian Walcott, the occasional conversation on Malcolm Moore and a few high-potential pitchers but there's one name getting overlooked heading into 2026.

It's the Rangers 13th overall prospect, Yolfran Castillo. Another teenage infielder to pair with Walcott, signed out of Venzuela in 2024 and has all the makings to be a threat in the big leagues one day.

Castillo will make himself known in 2026 with breakout season Rangers can't ignore

While Castillo is yet to have a standout performance, he's only been in the league for one full professional season after playing in just 30 games in 2024. His first true test was last year where the six-foot-three infielder gave a glimpse of his capabilites.

A contact-first bat, Castillo only left the yard once last year but drove in 41 runs, collected 13 doubles and swiped 29 bases, only being caught twice among the 88 games he spent in the Arizona Complex League and Single-A Hickory.

Castillo has one of the best bat-to-ball skills with extremely high plate discipline, according to MLB Pipeline's scouting report. His height can lend him to eventually becoming a. 15-20 homer bat and has all the makings on the defensive side to transform into a top of the line shortstop of third baseman.

After 22 extra-base hits last year, his offense is only getting better which is what is expected of an 18-year-old getting professional at-bats for the first time in his career. His progress in 2025 is what excited Texas for the future growth ahead and what could make him a real threat sometime in the future for the organization.

Even though the Rangers don't have a blossoming farm system that sits atop the other 29 teams, the farm still poses a true threat to make Texas's future bright. Of course, Walcott sits in control of that but so does Moore, Castillo, Gavin Fien and pitching prospects David Davaillo and Caden Scarborough.
