Few names in baseball strike fear in a persons body. There was Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Babe Ruth, and then there was Wilyer Abreu against the Texas Rangers.
I don't know what it is against the Texas Rangers but Abreu elevates his play against this team like few have ever seen. In only 22-at bats, Abreu has faced every star pitcher the Rangers have and has hit .500 with 4 home runs, 9 RBIs, 5 walks, and 7 extra-base hits.
These numbers are insane. If this is what he can bring to the Rangers lineup, it will provide these pitchers with a chance to pitch with a lead for once. This begs the question of is he even available, which I believe he might be.

The Red Sox are in a unique situation that is one of the best in baseball. They are on the verge of a youth movement while also having incredible veteran depth in the lineup. On top of that, their farm is ranked number one in baseball.
Combined with the future youth movement, their record is less than stellar so far in 2025. They are 20-19 and may be reaching a pivot point that can lead to the best situation for the Rangers to capitalize.
Roman Anthony is currently the number one ranked prospect in baseball and is pushing for somebodies job in Boston. The Red Sox are near a breaking point where they will have to trade somebody.
The easiest decision the Red Sox will make is Jarren Duran, who is not going anywhere. The next question is who is the pick between Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela.
Going purely based off this years offensive numbers, you would think that decision is easy. The main difference is Abreu can't play defense as well as Rafaela. He is a plus defensive right fielder but Rafaela plays center field over him for a reason.
This log jam creates the problem with calling up Anthony. It is a matter of time and the decision is looming. The Red Sox are in desperate need of future pitching to compliment the blossoming Garrett Crochet.
The Rangers can provide just that. It will be no small feat to get Abreu for Texas. It will likely include a decision of parting ways with Alejandro Rosario, Kohl Drake, Mitch Bratt, or a combination of a few.
The other part would likely include a position player that could include Dylan Dreiling, Alejandro Osuna, Abimelec Ortiz, or Justin Foscue. The asking price will likely be a group of 3 players of 2 pitchers and one hitter, and it will be expensive.
If I were in charge, I would offer them the combination of Mitch Bratt, Justin Foscue, and Marc Church. This would more than likely not get it done, but talks have to start somewhere. Kohl Drake would likely need to be involved to get it done and I am hesitant on that.
There is no doubt we need to add to this broken offense. I wouldn't even say its crazy to dangle Kumar Rocker in exchange. We need change and I think Abreu fits this lineup a little too perfectly.
The most important part of adding Wilyer Abreu to this lineup is saving our pitching staff from ever facing him again.
